Surf education is a major part of the Orcas nippers program. It is the theoretical part of junior surf life saving, beginning with the simple things such as recognising patrol flags and moving up to resuscitation and surf rescue skills.
Each age group completes a different level of surf education each season and is awarded a certificate for their efforts.
Under 8 Surf Awareness 1 Surf & Sun Safety
Under 9 Surf Awareness 2 Waves, Rips & Wading
Under 10 Surf Safety 1 Flags, Beach & Water Conditions
Under 11 Surf Safety 2 Board & Surf Skills
Under 12 Surf Smart 1 Advanced Surf Safety, First Aid
Under 13 Surf Smart 2 Resuscitation
Under 14 Surf Life Saving Certificate
ProficiencyAll children are required to undertake a preliminary swimming & floating evaluation before commencing any junior activity, training or competition.
Other proficiency tests are also required for children wishing to compete against other clubs at carnivals. See the Carnivals page for details.
